{"id":197,"date":"2011-01-04T22:08:22","date_gmt":"2011-01-04T11:38:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/travel.pennyandjosh.com\/?p=197"},"modified":"2012-01-03T11:24:16","modified_gmt":"2012-01-03T00:54:16","slug":"bean-curd-pudding-fish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/travel.pennyandjosh.com\/?p=197","title":{"rendered":"Bean Curd Pudding Fish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After we left you last night, we ventured to Bean Curd Pudding Fish restaurant for dinner, being\u00a0unable to find anywhere else with a better name.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The back of the restaurant was open to the elements, which meant that we were breathing fog while we sat inside (and let me tell you, it&#8217;s difficult to use chopsticks with two pairs of gloves on), but the spectacularly badly translated English menu made the subzero temperature well worth it. I couldn&#8217;t have made this menu up if I&#8217;d tried&#8230;here are a selection of our favourite dishes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spice fumigates a duck<\/li>\n<li>Stir fry float the son is white<\/li>\n<li>Stir fry before stewing with no result kidney bean<\/li>\n<li>Fry bowel bean pointedly<\/li>\n<li>Fish incense eggplant<\/li>\n<li>The open space bacterium burns a bacon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It felt rude to laugh at their menu&#8230;however we really had no choice in the matter, and ended up with tears running down our faces <em>(J\u00a0&#8211; In two years I&#8217;ve never seen Penny laugh that hard!)<\/em>. Unfortunately, the more hilariously named dishes were quite expensive, so I&#8217;m afraid we never discovered exactly what an open space bacterium is&#8230; We ended up with the cheaper (and more identifiable) spinach, potatos and beef noodles, which were quite delicious.<\/p>\n<p>This morning it was back to Juizhai Valley for our second day of exploring. In the lower part of the valley, we could do a lot more walking, and there were still dozens of beautiful coloured lakes and waterfalls to admire. Although it&#8217;s snowing here and the waterfalls are freezing in midair, it actually feels a lot warmer than Beijing. During the day it&#8217;s sunny with no wind,\u00a0so I&#8217;m actually pretty comfortable (with two pairs of pants and my marshmellow jacket).\u00a0I&#8217;m loving the\u00a0winter white scenery too&#8230;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In his quest to get the perfect photo via the tripod and self-timer, Josh did a fairly impressive fall and slide action as he was running to get in the photo&#8230;to his credit, he managed to get up and smile in time for the shot (see the waterfall photo on the third row). It was only funny after we&#8217;d checked that he hadn&#8217;t broken anything&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Keep reading and commenting&#8230;we&#8217;re off to dinner again. And hoping for an equally brilliant English translation menu.
